How can I download all of my e-mails with Horde?

With Horde, you can download the emails in a mailbox to your computer. For this, after logging in Horde web application in DYNAMIC mode, please right click on the mailbox you want to download and select Export

In the popup window, select "Download into a MBOX file" and click OK.

If you use Horde web application in BASIC mode, please use the Folders link, right below the NEW MESSAGE button, once you select the folder to be downloaded, click "Choose Action" menu and click Download.

How do I filter my incoming e-mails with Horde?

To prevent unwanted mail to take up space in the "Inbox" or to automatically transfer e-mail messages from certain people and/or about certain topics the "Filters" feature of Horde may be used. To use the feature first the "Mail" icon and then "Filters" icon are clicked.

In the Filter Rule page, to create a new rule, please click "New Rule".

You need to provide a name for the new rule.

In the For an incoming message that matches part, you can define criteria for To, Subject, Sender, From, etc.

In the Do this part, you can define the action for the e-mails matching the criteria.  Deliver to folder, Delete message completely, Redirect to... are frequently used actions.

How to Add Multiple Mail Address Identities:

Message Highlighting

·         Does not offer message highlighting.

General Information

How can I get help with using Horde?

The best place to turn for assistance with Horde applications is the support staff at the Internet service provider, school, company, or other organization whose webmail service you are using. Many commonly-encountered problems involve local matters with which Horde developers cannot assist you.

If you are not able to obtain assistance from your local support staff, you may wish to try asking the mailing list for the component you're using. Make sure you describe the problem clearly, including all error messages you might have received. Remember to report the version number of the application (if you know it), as well as what browser and OS you are using to access it.

Please don't contact the developers or the FAQ maintainer directly. They usually don't have time to deal with individual installations of Horde and its components, being too busy developing and FAQ-maintaining. (Besides, they're probably on the mailing list anyhow.)

I found a bug in Horde. Who should I tell?

Before you do anything, take a moment to read this article on bug reporting, and keep its comments in mind when reporting Horde bugs.

Having read that, there are two places where a bug can be reported. If you're on the mailing list for the component you think you've found a bug in, send a message to the mailing list, and be sure to keep an eye out for replies. You can also enter the bug into the Horde bug database.

Be sure to describe exactly how to reproduce the bug (if you know!), and include all error messages that appeared. Also, please inform your local support staff of the bug; they will be able to provide us with information specific to your organization's configuration which may be necessary in resolving the problem.

What is Horde?

Horde is both a piece of software and a project. The Horde Project comprises a set of Web-based productivity, messaging, and project-management applications, each of which is described below. The Horde Framework is a common code-base used by Horde applications, including libraries and a common user interface.

The Horde Framework doesn't do anything on its own; as a user, you will always be interacting with a Horde-based application.

What is IMP?

IMP is the Internet Messaging Program (formerly, among other things, the IMAP webMail Program), a webmail system and a component of the Horde project. IMP is the most widely-deployed component of Horde.

IMP offers most of the features users have come to expect from their conventional mail programs, including attachments, spell-check, address books, multiple folders, and multiple-language support.

What is Kronolith?

Kronolith is a web-based calendar and daily organizer (think Day-Timer). It currently provides a robust web-based calendar for individual users with repeating events, and a smart algorithm to display a whole day of events even if many of them overlap with each other. Future plans include support for shared calendars, merging multiple calendars into a single view, and Palm syncing.

What is Mnemo?

Mnemo is a simple note manager (memo pad application).

What is Nag?

Nagis a simple, multi-user task list manager.

What is Turba?

Turba is the Horde Address book and Contact Management application. It grew out of the need for a more complete address book than the one built in to older versions of IMP. It provides a generic frontend to searching LDAP, SQL, and other contact sources.

Where can I find documentation?

Unfortunately, the documentation for Horde applications often lags behind the application itself, and much of the current versions of Horde applications remain undocumented. Speak with your local support staff to see if local documentation has been made available.

If you would like to volunteer to write a user's manual for a component of Horde, please let us know on the doWhere can I find documentation?

While using Horde, I get an error from the Web server.

If, while using a Horde application, error messages appear in your browser, inform your support staff of the problem, being sure to note the exact error message, what you were doing when it occurred, and the time and date of the occurrence. Should they not be able to resolve the problem, they can follow the bug-reporting directions found in the Horde Administrator's FAQ.

Why do I not see the category colors that another user created?

Several applications allow to share resources among users on the same system, e.g. shared calendars, task lists or notepads. Users can assign categories to items inside these shared lists, e.g. events, tasks or notes. Additionally, users can assign colors to these categories.

Opposed to the shared lists, items, and categories, these colors are not shared. Instead, each user can define his own colors, according to their personal preference. One reason for this is, that people might already use the same color for a personal category that another user assigned to a category of a shared item.

Administrators can define a default set of categories and colors for all users of a Horde system though.

IMP Questions

After spellcheck, how do I find out the correct spelling of misspelled words?

[IMP 2.2] IMP 2.2 does not suggest replacements for misspelled words; it only identifies words which do not appear in its dictionary.

[IMP 3.x/4.x] IMP 3.x/4.x will suggest replacements for misspelled words automatically.

Can I undelete messages?

[IMP 3.x/4.x] You can undelete messages any time up until you click on the Empty Trash or Purge Deleted buttons, or until any automated emptying of the trash occurs if you have set up such an option. To undelete messages (marked as deleted) from the inbox listing, check the checkbox to the left of the messages you wish to keep, then press the Undelete link at the top or bottom left of the page. When you are viewing a message marked for deletion, there will be a link at the start and end of the message to undelete that message.

If you are using a Trash folder, you can undelete the messages by moving them out of the Trash folder into another folder.

How do I change my password?

[IMP 2.2] If your organization's installation of IMP supports password changes over the Web, you will see a Change Password link in IMP's menu. Click on that link in order to change your mail password. If that link does not appear in the menu, your support staff will be able to inform you of password-change procedure at your site.

[IMP 3.x/4.x] If your organization's installation of Horde and/or IMP supports password changes over the Web, you will see a Password link in Horde's and/or IMP's menu bar. Click on that link in order to change your mail password. If that link does not appear in the menu, your support staff will be able to inform you of password-change procedure at your site.

How do I get an account?

To get an account on a particular organization's IMP system, you will need to contact the support staff at the organization. IMP's developers have no connections with the organizations that use IMP.

How do I manage multiple POP3 or IMAP accounts from inside IMP?

[IMP 5.x] Fetchmail/Getmail like functionality has been removed from IMP 5 Ticket #8077.

[IMP 4.x] IMP can "Fetch mail" from other accounts and merge it into your INBOX or other folder(s) displayed by IMP. If you want to manage them separately rather than merging them all into one folder, you can simply create a separate folder for each account, and then configure IMP's Fetch Mail to download messages for each account to its own unique folder. Each folder would then represent an account. Using multiple identities tied to each account's email address, you can set it up so that when you reply to a message from any given account, the proper From: address is used.

How do I print the content of an email message?

[IMP 2.x] In IMP 2.x there is no separate print option. You will have to use the print option of your web browser.

[IMP 3.x/4.x] When viewing a message, you can easily print the contents of the message using the Print link in the menu bar that appears above and below the message. You should print the message this way rather than using the browser print function, as the browser's print function will print the entire web page rather than just the message contents.

When you click the Prink link, the message will open in a new window so you may print it. Depending on the web browser and operating system you use, your browser's print dialog box may automatically open for you. If it does not, pull down the browser's File menu and choose Print.

How do I send mail to more than one person?

To send mail to more than one person, separate their email addresses in the To:, Cc:, or Bcc: header (or a combination of all three) with commas (","). Do not use semicolons (";") to separate lists of email addresses.

How do I store more than one email address in a Contacts List entry?

[IMP 2.2] Each Contacts List entry can only contain a single email address.

[IMP 3.x] Full support for multiple addresses is still being implemented. But, in most cases you can store multiple addresses in a single Address book entry simply by listing all the email addresses in the Address book Email field separated by commas. Do not use semicolons (";") to separate lists of email addresses.

Note that the number of addresses that fit in a single entry may be limited.

IMP won't let me login.

If you are unable to login to IMP, contact your organization's support staff. They are the only ones who can manage accounts within your organization; IMP's developers cannot.

What do "new" and "recent" mean at the top of the IMP display?

[IMP 2.2] In IMP's status bar, above the mailbox index or message body part of the display, "new" refers to messages which have not been read since they arrived, while "recent" refers to messages that have arrived since the last time you looked at the mailbox's index.

In mailbox view, IMP occasionally shows the recipient, instead of the sender, of the message.

IMP's mailbox view shows the recipient in the From column on messages for which you are the sender. (In other words, since you sent it, you know who the sender is, so IMP tells you who you sent it to.) This is particularly useful for the sent-mail and drafts folders

What is a Virtual INBOX folder and/or Virtual Trash folder?

[IMP 4.1] A Virtual Inbox folder is a logical grouping of all mail messages in all polled folders that are marked as unread. Opening the Virtual Inbox folder will present a listing of all such mail messages. This provides a way to quickly read all new (unread) messages which may be spread across many folders.

A Virtual Trash folder is a logical hiding of all mail messages which are marked with the IMAP Delete flag across all folders.

An IMAP server would normally mark a message as deleted but not move it anywhere or actually delete it, and it would still show up in the folder listing where it resided even though it was marked for deletion. With a virtual trash folder, the email messages marked for delete would no longer show up in the folders they reside in (though there would actually still be in those folders), but they would appear in a 'Trash' folder (the Virtual Trash). This satisfies some people's expectations (visually), as it in essence duplicates the metaphors typical of a POP3 retrieval of email in a typical mail client.

You can open the Virtual Trash folder to see all your deleted mail. Messages stay in the folders they were originally filed or placed in, instead of being copied to an actual Trash folder or being shown as marked as deleted in their original folders.

What is my email address?

To risk sounding repetitive, contact your organization's support staff for all information regarding your local mail system. You can also send mail to a friend requesting that they reply, and observe the address to which their reply was sent.

Kronolith Questions

Can Kronolith sync with my Palm Pilot?

Preliminary syncing support is available in the bleeding-edge development releases. See http://horde.org/sync/

Does Kronolith have shared calendar support?

Yes. Kronolith 2.0 introduced shared calendars. You can view as many calendars as you want in one overlaid view, and control access to each of your calendars on a per-user basis.

Does Kronolith support iCalendar invitations?

Yes. Kronolith 2.0 supports the iCalendar/vCalendar format for importing and exporting and sending iCalendar invitations for e-mail based scheduling. As such it is now interoperable with any calendar/email system which can either send or receive standard iCalendar attachments. This means that you can create a kronolith event, send invitations for that event to any email addresses desired, and the email recipients can then add the event to their calendars automatically.

How do "alarms" work?

If your system administrator has configured it, and you have set an email address in your Horde preferences, you will get an email when an alarm "goes off". You can pick inline, popup, or email reminders in options.

How do I list all the entries in my address book?

[Turba 1.2] Click one the Turba Browse icon in the top menu bar. Then select the address book you want to browse, and click on the Show button. In some large address books, the number of entries returned may be limited.

[Turba 1.1] Go to the Turba search window. Select "Name" in the "Find" field. Leave the "Matching" field empty. Select "My Address book" in the "From" filed. Press the Search button. You should see all the entries in your address book listed.

Why don't I see the address book icon after header email addresses in IMP?

You probably have not selected your default address book in IMP. In IMP, use the Options button to access your preference. Select Address books, then select your address book under Choose the address book to use when adding addresses.
